Website Builder Review: SquareSpace.com

SquareSpace.com

I’m always looking for better and easier ways to setup websites and enjoy seeing how far companies can push innovation and design, for the simple fact of making technology simpler and more efficient for the general consumer – sort of like Apple in a sense.

I have a couple clients who have started to create their websites through SquareSpace.com and have asked me to assist – with that said I had the opportunity to get my hands dirty with this technology and learn all the in’s and out’s. For those who don’t know what SquareSpace is, SquareSpace.com is a Software-as-a-service (SaaS) based content management system (CMS) which is composed of a website builder, blogging platform and hosting service. This type of service allows individuals as well as businesses to create and maintain websites and blogs within itself.

With that said, it has a very clean user interface for a control panel and is very easy to navigate through – for the novice who may not know their way around web development – SquareSpace has some really great tutorials and help features, from setting up a simple page to building out your e-commerce. SquareSpace really prides themselves through their end-user experience making sure that the user is never left clueless.

Although there are limitation within the program and templates I find that this website is definitely a good destination for those who want to create a quick down and dirty website look professional and pretty. Did I mention that the templates that you can choose from are very elegant and well designed?

How does this compare to other CMSs such as the all-powerful WordPress? Close but not better, because of WordPress’ open-source model and active community, WordPress still continues to push forward and innovate within the CMS space.
